Suddenly Sunday!

Svea at Confessions and Ramblings of a Muse in the Fog has created this new weekly event and invites anyone to join in and leave a link at her blog.

This past week has been like the eye of the storm........a period of quiet after a hectic second half of February and a rest before next week's activities. I have my brother and SIL coming to stay this coming week before they fly back home to the UK so sadly,  books and blogging will have to take a back seat for a few days .

With that in mind my first priority this week was catching up on visiting, reading and commenting, something that is quite time consuming and usually the first thing to be neglected when you're busy.

Speaking of which Jennifer from Crazy-for-Books has had a fabulous idea for a way to connect with more book bloggers. She says :
"Hey book bloggers! Every day I seem to find another book blog that I start following. In the spirit of the Friday Follow, I thought it would be cool to do a Book Blog Hop to give us all bookies a chance to connect and find new blogs that we may be missing out on!

So, if you'd like to participate, just repost this, sign MckLinky below, and check out other blogs in MckLinky! Let's connect and make new book bloggy friends!!

Head on over to Crazy-for-Books to sign up

You never know what you might find when you go visiting. I was over at Rhiana Reads when I spotted a link on her blogroll for International Blog Tours. I love seeing that 'I' word - it makes me sit up and take notice. On investigating I hesitated at first because it's mostly YA books and then decided that is exactly what I need to broaden my reading. The only reason I haven't been reading that genre is because with my children too old and my grandchildren too young there hasn't been any incentive.

Don't miss this fantastic post by Eva at A Striped Armchair - step by step she she explains The Making of a Booklist , her process of researching and finding books she's looking for on a particular topic. I love researching, following the google trail, but when it comes to books I've been more inclined to think " Must read more on that one day - look around the library sometime"  and if my lists exist it's in my mind.
The post inspired me to set off in search of books about Jamaica and/or by Jamaican authors and I had a fun hour exploring finishing up with a nice list written into my notebook for future reference.

Or you might prefer someone else doing it all for you. Lots and lots of lovely literary lists in several posts this week from Sandra at Fresh Ink Books. It's mouth watering stuff!!

This one caught my eye because Kate Pullinger collorated with Jane Campion on the novel of the movie The Piano which was filmed in New Zealand and shot our own little Anna Paquin into the limelight.
It's only a small book, easily overlooked on crammed library shelves, and I doubt I would ever have noticed it if I hadn't seen it in the list - The Governor General's Literary Awards.................thanks, Sandra.

And a big thank you to Amelia at Imagination in Focus for this lovely blog award........much appreciated. I f you haven't visited Amelia yet then do take the time to pay her visit as she some fun and creative posts including a weekly cover comparison meme to which you can add your link. Something I intend to do when I have a bit more time.
I know.......now I'm sitting on three awards but I'll get to the passing on when life settles down a bit!

One more thing I'm excited about ........but that gets it's own post................very soon, after I've taken a break with a nice cup of coffee.
Then it will be back to putting some posts together to schedule for the coming week when I'll be missing in domestic action.

Hope your week's been a good one too!

  1. I'm glad to see you've signed up to International Blog Tours. I'm really looking forward to getting my first book!

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the current YA, it's a lot different from the stuff I read in the late eighties/early nineties. I have a teenage son myself (who hates reading despite my efforts) but I think there is a part of all of us that will always be young and can identify with these books. Hope you enjoy!

  2. The word International makes me sit up and take notice too! I know why so many contests and blog tours aren't for international participants, but doesn't stop it from being a little annoying at times, particularly if it is a book that I really want to read!

Enjoy your time with your family!

  3. Hi Rhiana - I'm looking forward to it too and there is so much enthusiasm around for YA books that I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

Marg - I understand why too although I think of the publishers could be a little more generous. Just gets a bit disheartening at times.

  4. Harry Potter and His Dark Materials really got me to read children's and YA books again in my late twenties. Also when I like an author's non-YA books I sometimes go on to read their YA stuff - eg I liked Meg Cabot's Heather Wells mysteries and so went on to read Princess Diaries. I agree, the genre is thriving and I'm glad about that. Online friend has a YA blog which might assist with your book choices:
