It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

A weekly event hosted by Sheila at BookJourney

Where we list the books completed last week, the books currently being read and the books we plan to read this week.

The past week has been quite terrible watching the destruction  brought about by the flooding in Australia and Brazil. It's hard to imagine the vast area of Australia that is being affected and our thoughts and prayers are with all those whose lives have been devastated by this disaster.

On the home front we had a lovely week enjoying the company of our daughter and her three boys. She's a reader too and so nice to have someone to talk books with.
With hot and humid nights making sleep difficult I still managed to read three books during the week - I'm not worrying too much about reviewing this month but these first two do deserve a mention.

blueeyedboy by Joanne Harris...........I do like JH's writing and her ability to come up with something new with every book. This is an intricately plotted thriller centred around the internet and the opportunities it presents for fantasy , disguised personalities and mind games. Very good........but chilling!

Fall on Your Knees by Ann-Marie McDonald.........from  haunted Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia through the battlefields of WWI into the emerging jazz scene of New York City the story follows the lives of four unforgettable sisters. A dark tale of family secrets and sins - beautifully written, stunning imagery of places and people - Loved it!

The Empress of Ice Cream by Anthony Capella (to be reviewed)

Latest Reviews
Black Mamba Boy by Nadifa Mohamed
A Chronicle of Endylmyr by Charles Hall

Currently reading

Born Under a Million Shadows by Andrea Busfield
The Fears of Henry VI by Ian Mortimer ( non-fiction)

Coming up next
The Diviner's Tale by Bradford Morrow ....... an ingeniously plotted mystery and a magical love story,
Bonobo Handshake by Vanessa Woods - a memoir of love and adventure in the Congo.

What are you reading this week?

  1. Those are all new to me.

The floods were amazing. My uncle lives in Australia, he was safe but unable to work, his job is flooded. Thank goodness for the safety of so many.

Glad you had such a nice time with your daughter and grandchildren.

Hope all your friends and family are safe in Australia, it really has been a devastating time but also heart-warming when you see communities band together
