* A theme will be posted each week (on Thursdays)
* Select a conversation/snippet/sentence from the current book you are reading
* Post it and don’t forget to mention the author and the title of the book
* It is important that the theme is conveyed in the sentence (you don’t necessarily need to have the word)
* Since we may take a few days to finish a book, this event is open for one whole week
This will give us a wonderful opportunity to explore and understand different writing styles and descriptive approaches adopted by authors.
This week's theme is - Colours
"And then, last, what should've been first, I saw how beautiful they were: The women wrapped in crimson, blue and gold; the women walking barefoot through the tangled shabbiness of the slum with patient ethereal grace; the white-toothed, almond-eyed handsomeness of the men; and the affectionate camaraderie of the fine-limbed children......"
p 8 - Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts.
Ooooh... that's a good one. Color is one of those things that brings characters alive.

I agree that we can learn a lot about characters through the colors around them. Illustrated here in MY THURSDAY MEMES POST

I loved Shantaram - hope you're enjoying it! It's certainly a solid book to get through but an incredible story.
ReplyDeleteOn another note - have you read "Cleo" by Helen Brown? When I saw your profile pic and where you're from (NZ!) I thought of Cleo immediately!
I read it earlier this year if you haven't already come across it:
