The Thrill Ride Questionaire

The Thrill Ride Questionnaire

What is your favourite genre out of Thriller, Mystery, Suspense and Horror? Why?

I don't have a favourite because I like them all. What I do look for are books that are less about action and thrills and focus more on the psychological motivations of the characters. The icing on the cake is when I find a psychological suspense/thriller mystery with a touch of supernatural horror!

Who are your top 3 authors in those genres?.........very hard to choose

Michael Koryta, Louise Penny, Jo Nesbo

Tell us who your favourite male and female authors are in the genre?

What an awful question - I have so many but.....

Michael Koryta, Louise Penny

What book do you remember loving but don't remember the details? Maybe you should read it again now.

Valentine by Tom Savage

It's years since I read it but I've never forgotten it and still look on the library shelves for anything else he wrote but with no success unfortunately.
I can't remember what it was about but it had the most diabolical and unexpected twist I've ever read.
Don't know whether it's still out there but I recommend.

What has been your favourite book this year:

Mystery - Bury Your Dead by Louise Penny

Suspense -  Cuckoo by Julia Crouch

Horror - Harbour by John Ajvide Lindqvist  ( not strictly a horror but has elements of everything including supernatural horror)

What series or trilogy would you recommend in these genres?

Thriller - Mystery - Suspense - Horror....I can't separate them into categories but these are some of the series I like.

  • Chief Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny
  •  Flavia de Luce series by Alan Bradle
  •  Mistress of the Art of Death series by Ariana Franklin
  •  Harper Connelly series by Charlaine Harris
  • Smoky Barrett series by Cody McFadyen
  • Alex Cross series by James Patterson
  • Alex Delaware series by Jonathan Kellerman
  • Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly
The list is endless!

Recommend 1 or 2 books that you think more around the blogosphere should read.

The Bodies Left Behind by Jeffrey Deaver..........a standalone and one of the best I've read by this author.
Rupture by Simon Lelic

What authors have you tried and look forward to reading more from them? Maybe we can give you suggestions on what to read from them.

Kate Atkinson, Elly Griffiths, Heath Sommer, Johan Theorin, Rosamund Lupton, Mo Hayder, Jussi Adler-Olsen, Laura Wilson

What authors in the above genres are on your TBR list but you haven't tried yet?  Who should I read soon?

Kerry Greenwood, Vincent Zandri, Peter Robinson, Erin Kelly, Cora Harrison

  1. Ah, more lovely books to add to my pile. I have a copy of Cuckoo at home too so I am pleased to see that it is one of your favourites this year so far.

I haven't read any Louise Penny yet but I have been told by a few people that I should be reading her books.

  4. Louise Penny made my list too. I forgot about Kate Atkinson, I loved her Case Histories but haven't read anything else.

This thrill week is going to add way too many books to my to-read list.

  7. Book Whisperer - I'm sure you'll love Louise Penny but make sure you start at the beginning of the series.

Marce - I've downloaded Vincent Z's The Remains to my kindle so looking forward to that one.

I think Rupture is the UK title and wasn't aware it had another one.

Carol - I've only read one of Kate Atkinson's too - Started Early, Took My Dog - loved it! She would be my favourite after LP.

BestOBooks - can never have too many on that TBR!

    Lah - hope you'll like Valentine .
