Library Loot

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Marg @ The Adventures of an Intrepid Reader and Claire @ The Captive Reader that encourages bloggers to share the books they have checked out from the library.

That there has been no library loot for a while is because I put my library visits on hold for a few weeks. Not an easy thing to do but with so much reading to catch up with including a lengthy Dickens , it was necessary to save myself from being completely overwhelmed. Happily, back to normal yesterday although still keeping the numbers down.

Habits of the House by Fay Weldon........another aristocratic, Edwardian , Downton Abbey type story but I'm interested to see what sort of twist this well-known author adds to it.

The Collected Stories of Katherine Mansfield - in preparation for A Modern March. I never tire of reading KM's short stories and for this event I plan to focus on those with a NZ setting.

Ferney by James Long.....' a young couple, Mike and Gally, buy an old cottage in Somerset but their relationship becomes strained when Gally forms an increasingly close attachment to Ferney, an old countryman.' I read this back when it was first published in 1998 and only recently discovered that in 2010 there was a sequel. As I don't recall much about Ferney - I know I liked it- I thought I'd do a quick reread before moving on to the sequel.

A Half Forgotten Song by Katherine Webb.......'moving from the wilds of the Dorset coast to the intoxicating heat of a Moroccan summer this novel explores the quixotic nature of memory - and the perils of obsessive love.' A 'read and relax' book.

What's in your library loot this week?

  1. These all sound great. I have only read a couple of Fay Weldon's books but have enjoyed them and keep meaning to read Katherine Mansfield. I have never heard of Ferney before but am intrigued. Enjoy your loot!

    1. I hope you will try KM - I really enjoy her stories. Haven't read Fay Weldon for a while and this one has me wondering how she will place her mark on this popular theme.

  4. I have the Webb book out from the library at the moment but it is due back in a couple of days and I don't think I am going to get to it. I might have to borrow it again.

    Enjoy your loot!
