Time for another game of chance from the The Classics Club - to make a list of twenty unread titles from our list and on the 20th May one number will be chosen. The challenge is to read the book that corresponds to the number by July 1.

Let the wheel spin!
I have South Riding on my list, too. I've been meaning to read it for too long now.
ReplyDeletePossession is wonderful and so is The Odd Women. Good luck on Monday! It will be fun to see what everyone *has* to read.
I've South Riding too long also - the local government theme does keep me putting it off. Great fun waiting for the spin and seeing everyone else's lists.
DeleteIf we were voting I'd go 2, 4 or 13 for books I really love or 10 or 18 for books I really want to read. But whichever number comes up I hope you get a book to love.
ReplyDeleteSo do I :-). Must admit I've not added anything too challenging as I already have two classics on the go.
DeleteWhat a lovely carrousel (I had to look up the spelling on that word, and it still doesn't look right).
ReplyDeleteI love seeing everyone's lists, and I'm looking forward to seeing what number comes up. Do you have a preference?
Only one r . Lisa :-). My only preference really is something short as I'm already reading Middlemarch and Parade's End. One of the English ladies I'd be very happy with.
DeleteThat's a good list. I read Possession some years ago and loved it, but it is quite long. I have South Riding - loved the TV series, but haven't read the book yet. I really liked 5, 7 and 14. I hope you get a shorter book in the spin!
ReplyDeleteI don't have many long books on the list but I do want to read Possession and won't complain too much if it is chosen.
DeleteI'll just add myself to this group of people saying how good Germinal is :) Good luck with the spin!
ReplyDeleteGerminal is one I want to be able to give full attention to so I'm hoping it isn't the chosen one but if it is I'll just have to put the others aside for a bit.
DeleteI would be rooting for 1, 10 and 13. It took me three goes to read 'Possession' but when I finally did I was so glad I'd finished it.
ReplyDeleteI've had Possession sitting here for ages so maybe its time is now.
DeleteFantastic list! You've managed to get a lot of variety in there. That's what my list was lacking - but I was trying to be realistic with my current limitations. :) Perhaps I'll be braver next time around!
ReplyDeleteI wasn't brave enough to add chunksters or anything too challenging - I have enough going on right now to be faced with that.
DeleteI'd like to read all of those books! Time for me to get my list together...
ReplyDeleteLook forward to reading your list, JoAnn!
DeleteI loved both South Riding and Possession but 13, 14 and 15 are all great books too. This is a wonderful list and I hope you enjoy whichever book is chosen. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI think South Riding would be a good spin winner as I keep putting off reading it .
DeleteGaskell made my spin list today too!
ReplyDeleteI've been looking forward to Wives & Daughters although it might be a bit long for me hope it is my spin winner.
DeleteI loved Agnes Grey and think your category of 'English lady authors' is wonderful :)
ReplyDeleteI'm secretly hoping I get one of those titles. Agnes Grey I've been putting off because once it's read there's no more Anne Bronte's to read. :-(
DeletePossession is tough - it is dense and takes a while to get into (at least in my opinion), but it is absolutely worth it in the end. Germinal is fan-freaking-tastic. I have Emma (and Persuasion) on my list for the Austen in August event this summer. Agnes Grey was a great read, and A Farwell to Arms is my favorite Hemingway. The Picture of Dorian Gray is one of my favorite books of all-time. You've got a lot hear that I haven't read, but the list looks great. I think you'll get lucky with this spin, no matter what.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be away in August so will miss the Austen in August this year unfortunately so thought I might as well add it to the list. Hemingway makes me nervous - I haven't read any of his because I have this idea I won't like them. Germinal & Possession really looking forward to.
DeletePossession is on my list also. I have such high expectations because of raves from other bloggers! I absolutely loved 5 and 12! Hope the spin treats you well!
ReplyDeleteI've had Possession on the shelf for ages and the time has never seemed right to read it - I have high expectations too!
DeleteAhhh...you have Germinal there, I don't think I need to say anything here... ;)
ReplyDeleteFrom your list, I have only read Germinal and Dorian Gray (the latter is interesting too!). I'm curious with The Possession, I have it in my CC list, but still don't have the mood to start it. Good luck with the spin!
Germinal is waiting very patiently for that 'right time' - definitely this year hopefully.
Deletewow great list, a few I've read and some I have on my classic club list too : )
ReplyDeleteI didn't add anything too daunting this time so I'll be happy for almost any of them to come up.
DeleteGood luck, I like the way you've broken down your list. I hope you get a good # too!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tanya!
DeleteGood luck with the spin :) I sort of hope you end up with the Oscar Wilde...I loved that book!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read anything by Oscar Wilde so it would be a good choice.
