It's been a very sad time

It was this time last year when life became difficult and I stopped blogging because I felt unable to keep up a positive public face when I felt so low. I know now that was a huge mistake and one I'm not going to make again. I'm not going to pretend to be alright when I'm not but I am going to continue blogging even if for a while there will be little of substance written. So I need to tell you...

On Monday 4th August our beloved and beautiful seventeen-year-old granddaughter took her own life. The expert care and counselling, the love and protection that surrounded her - none of it was enough to keep her safe from the darkness of the depression that overcame her.

It is a devastating and heartbreaking loss for our family. It has been the worst ten days of my life.

  14. Oh Cat, my heart breaks for you.
So many people I know are suffering loss and grief right now. Dark days indeed.
My uncle (who lost a 21 yr old son in a traffic accident years ago) recently said to me, you never get over it, but you do learn to live with it.
Maybe one of the consolations of reading and writing is finding and sharing your thoughts & feelings with other's who have been there or are in the middle of it right now.
    Thinking of you xo

    1. Thank you, Brona. I have noticed how much more aware I've become of the tragedy around me. Every day, all over the world people are suffering heartbreak. Consoling to know you aren't alone.

    2. I'm not sure if you're ready to read about someone else's heartbreak right now, but Hanna'h's husband died in a surfing accident last month. I met both her and her husband professionally; she's a writer. Her blog has been incredibly moving and shows the amazing power that words can have in the healing & connecting to others process.

      When you feel ready...
