Monthly Roundup - July 2010

Famous last words!!

This time last month I was predicting a cosy, middle of winter month in which I would achieve lots of reading and reviewing but it wasn't to be.
Instead it's been all about family , a houseful of children and grandchildren coming and going , cooking, cleaning and wistfully eyeing the steadily growing pile of books waiting to be read.
Fingers crossed for August!

Books Read in July: 10

Star of the Sea by Joseph O'Connor
Fields of Gold by Fiona McIntosh
The 9th Judgement by James Patterson
So Cold the River by Michael Koryta
My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
Lord of the Changing Winds by Rachel Neumeier
Cutting For Stone by Abraham Verghese
By Fire, By Water by Mitchell James Kaplan
Pretty Little Things by Jilliane Hoffman

DNF: One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.........for a readalong but I really didn't care for it at all despite all the rave reviews I've read.

Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen is another readalong, hosted by Jennifer at Reading with Tequila . At present we're halfway and I'm really enjoying this one.

Challenges: Completed the Royal Reviews Historical Challenge.

Although my reading total is way down I read some wonderful books in July and there's no way I could choose one favourite. I did set myself a small challenge to read at least one book a month that has been on my 'one day I'll get around to reading this' list for ages and I read two - A Thousand Splendid Suns and Cutting For Stone, both of which were fantastic.

Hope everyone has a great August !

  1. That's totally fine you didn't finish it. After the first few pages I was wondering what I had gotten myself into, but I just stuck with it. :)

  3. At this point my August is looking like I won't have much time to read. I'm hoping September will be better!
