Aislinn has always seen faeries, though they would certainly blind her if they knew of her Sight. Powerful and dangerous, they walk hidden in the mortal world. But now faeries are stalking her. One of them, a beautiful boy named Keenan, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer.
Now it's too late. Keenan is the Summer King and has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. He is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any cost......Maybe it's because I'm not a teenager but there wasn't a great deal I liked about this book. As an admirer of Brian Froud's Faeries I did at first like the way the faeries were described - I feared frills and magic wands - but then their behaviour increasingly annoyed me. They seemed rather mean and nasty.
I found it very hard to relate in a positive way to the main characters. Both Aislinn and Keenan lacked the something special they'd surely need to be faerie royalty and Aislinn's mortal boyfriend, Seth , is so nice and caring and protective it's impossible to believe that such a paragon of virtue could exist. Disappointing !

HEY!!!! I love your reviews anyway, but as I was reading this, I just kept grinning and grinning, like "YES!" someone else who didn't like WL either! Haha, I agree with every well-made point, but this one is pretty popular, so it's kind of uncommon to find someone else with a similar opinion :D
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your review!
Oh man, this was one I thought I might like! Thanks for the honest review!
ReplyDeletelol Amelia - I'm glad to hear from a young person who agrees. I can see how it might appeal but not for me.
ReplyDeleteLady Q - you might like it!
I liked that they were like fairies should be, wicked nasty creatures.
ReplyDeleteBut never did feel connected to any of the characters
Blodeuedd - I prefer the good faery, bad faery world. :-)
