Camelot's Shadow by Sarah Zettel

Genre: Historical Romance/Fantasy
Publisher: HarperCollins, 2009

A  tale of romance and magic set against the legendary backdrop of King Arthur's court. At nineteen the beautiful Lady Rhian is clearly of marriageable age. But her father seems reluctant to give his blessing to any of her suitors. When she discovers the true reason for this -- that in return for her mother's life he promised her to a sorcerer -- she runs away to join a convent. The sorcerer, Euberacon, is determined to exact his payment and waylays Rhian on the road, but she is rescued by the valiant Sir Gawain, a knight of King Arthur's Round Table, who gallantly offers to escort Rhian to Camelot.

Camelot's Shadow is the first of a series so presumably there are people who enjoy Sarah Zettel's books. Unfortunately I'm not one of them and the only reason I read past page two and valiantly battled my way to the end was because I had to.

Mediocre writing at best and ridiculously perfect and unbelievable characters = Boring!

It was my last read for one of my favourite 2010 challenges, the Historical ABC, and while I would have preferred to finish with a book I loved , I'm very pleased that I managed to complete this challenge. I really enjoyed hunting down books to fit the required letter and read some fantastic HF and I learnt very quickly to think ahead and organise my choices early. Two weeks can slip by in a flash.

Thanks to the ladies of Historical Tapestry for hosting the challenge.

Z is for Zettel

A complete list of the books I read with links to their reviews can be found here

  2. Oh dear ... sorry this was such a disappointing read. Whenever I read by "letter," it usually doesn't end well.

  3. Misfit - I sure won't be reading any more of the series.

Jenners - I can't complain. It was the only one of 26 books I didn't like.

  4. Well done Cat for completing the challenge! You are a bit in front of us, as we took a breather over the holidays but the Mr Linky's will be up shortly for Y and Z!

I am glad you enjoyed the challenge. I did too, and we might resurrect it again in 2012...maybe!
