Classics Club Spin #9

March has come and gone and I've been MIA throughout for a variety of reasons - some good, some not so good. That's life and I'm not even going to try to catch up but am letting last month go and looking ahead to April.

Another spin from the The Classics Club is just what I need to get things rolling again.
The Goal - to make a list of twenty unread titles from our list and on Monday 6 April one number will be chosen. The challenge is to read the book that corresponds to the number by May 15.

My Spin List

Five Lovely Ladies

1. All Passion Spent by Vita Sackville-West
2. Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell
3. Red Pottage by Mary Cholmondeley
4. The Fountain Overflows by Rebecca West
5. Agnes Grey by Anne Bronte

Five that have been on the shelf too long

6. The Odd Women by George Gissing
7. The Story of a New Zealand River by Jane Mander
8. The Enchanted April by Elizabeth von Arnim
9. The Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf
10. Vanity Fair by William M Thackeray

Five  about the Boys

11. Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy
12. Adam Bede by George Eliot
13. Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott
14. Maurice by E M Forster
15. Dr Thorne by Anthony Trollope

Five by authors I haven't read before

16. The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
17. Highland River by Neil M.Gunn
18. The Good Companions by J.B.Priestley
19. Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry
20. Helen by Maria Edgeworth.

Keeping my fingers crossed for something short and easy!

  1. Glad to see you back, Cat! I have Wives and Daughters on my list too! Ivanhoe is not on my Spin list this time, but it's on my master list and I'm hoping to read it soon. I absolutely love your list!! I've collecting some titles off it for my second Classics Club list. Happy reading!

    1. Wives and Daughters has been on every one of my spin lists - maybe one day its number may come up.

  2. Welcome back! The Enchanted April is short and happy - in fact, I was just thinking that I need to read it again. I started Vera last night & realized it will NOT be a happy story.

    1. I seem to have a lot on the go too but can never resist the spin. I've gone easy on myself and haven't added any titles that intimidate.

  6. I'm still trying to decide whether to take part in this spin or not as I think April and May are going to be busy months for me. I hope you get a number you're happy with - I loved Ivanhoe, Jude the Obscure and Dr Thorne but if you want a nice short read, The Enchanted April would be perfect!

    1. That seems to be the general opinion - No 8 would be perfect. Almost a guarantee I won't get it.

  8. Glad to see you back & I hope you spin up one if your lovely ladies!

I'm enjoying seeing how everyone is making the Spin work for them. All the individual approaches make for an interesting blog hopping experience :-)

  9. I love how you created your list! Wives and Daughters is one of my all-time favorites, also Doctor Thorne. And Enchanted April is just delightful. I also own Red Pottage but it's not on my Classics Club list -- so I'm also hoping you get that one just so I can read your review. Good luck with the spin!

    1. Don't know why I haven't got round to Wives & Daughters before now . I would like Dr Thorne to fit in with the Trollope celebration - I started it months ago, put it down and never got back to it.

  10. Welcome back! I'm awful about regularly blogging so I understand life getting away with you. Hope everything is going well all the same.
Now, to the list. It's brilliant. Ambitious. I love it. I've enjoyed a few of these reads, but most I haven't read yet. Either way, I think you'll enjoy whatever you end up with. Cheers!

    1. Sometimes the weeks just slip away almost unnoticed and I have to make a real effort to pick up the pieces. The spin was good motivation to get me moving again.
