Review: A Note from an Old Aquaintance by Bill Walker

Genre: Contemporary Fiction
Publisher: iUniverse, 2009

Sometimes, love gets a second chance....

Brian Weller is a haunted man. It’s been two years since the tragic accident that left his three-year-old son dead and his wife in an irreversible coma. A popular author of mega-selling thrillers, Brian’s life has reached a crossroads: his new book is stalled, his wife’s prognosis is dire, and he teeters on the brink of despair.

Everything changes the morning an e-mail arrives from Boston artist Joanna Richman. Her heartfelt note brings back all the poignant memories: the night their eyes met, the fiery passion of their short-lived affair, and the agonizing moment he was forced to leave Joanna forever. Now, fifteen years later, the guilt and anger threaten to overwhelm him. Vowing to make things right, Brian arranges a book-signing tour that will take him back to Boston. He is eager to see Joanna again, but remains unsure where their reunion will lead. One thing is certain: the forces that tore their love asunder will stop at nothing to keep them apart.

Filled with tender romance and taut suspense, A Note from an Old Acquaintance is an unforgettable story about fate, honor, and the power of true love.

From the first page I fell in love with the author's wonderfully descriptive writing style which drew me into the lives of the characters at a very emotional level. Brian, Joanna and Erik are caught in that age old love triangle but they appear as very human and each of them capable of making choices that may not always be right and often have devastating consequences. I think most of us can relate to that and there were times when I felt as sympathetic to Erik as I did to the lovers.

The story begins in 2006 and then moves back fifteen years to the time when Brian and Joanna found and then lost each other. The final part of the book returns to 2006 , their reunion and the possibility of the second chance. It is a love story filled with romance and passion but it's also a story about love and the many ways in which love can be expressed within different relationships. Added to which there is plenty of excitement and suspense to keep the pace moving along well.

Heartbreaking and heartwarming!  There's nothing like a love story and I enjoyed this book immensely.

I received a signed copy from Bill Walker( thank you so much) for the Pump Up Your Book tour.
