It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

A weekly event hosted by Sheila at One Persons Journey

List the books completed last week, the books currently being read and the books you plan to read this week.

Not a lot happening in my reading world at the moment and with one more week of school holidays and visiting grandchildren I don't expect things to pick up until I wave them goodbye.

In the last two weeks I've only read four books:

So Cold the River by Michael Koryta
Fields of Gold by Fiona McIntosh
The 9th Judgement by James Patterson
Impossible Saints by Michele Roberts

The books to be reviewed are piling up - only two added last week , Fields of Gold and..
New York by Edward Rutherfurd.

Currently I'm reading

One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez - for the July readalong and not making much progress .
My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares

Following that it will be :

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini - perfect timing for the following. Our son has recently returned from Afghanistan where he was working as an advisor helping villagers rebuild so this is definitely something I shall do.

Between now and August 15, 2010, for every picture uploaded to their site of someone holding one or both of Hosseini's books, Riverhead Books will donate $2 to The Khaled Hosseini Foundation. From the Foundation's About page:

The Khaled Hosseini Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, provides humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan. The Foundation supports projects which provide shelter to refugee families and economic and education opportunities for women and children. In addition, the Foundation awards scholarships to students who have migrated to the United States under refugee status and to women pursuing higher education in Afghanistan.

Pictures can be uploaded to the group on Penguin's website.

Happy reading and have a great week!

  1. Our kids go back to school tomorrow but I know what you mean about not getting much reading done with the holidays. Well I hope you enjoy the rest of your holidays with your grandchildren. The books will still be there when they are back at school. Have a great week!

  6. I like both covers of My Name is Memory (it's a similar case with my cover love for The Sky is Everywhere), so I don't know which to decide to BUY. I hope it's a great read. I really want to read it someday. Also, I only read 4 books in the past fortnight as well...school is getting in the way. When I'm reading I have to feel guilty about not sitting down and doing work. :\

Check out my post, and feel free to enter my contest.
